A man suspected of mailing more than a dozen threatening letters containing white powder to Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Jon Stewart and other high-profile figures was in custody and awaiting a court appearance.
Prosecutors were expected to file a criminal complaint against Chad Conrad Castagana, 39, in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles on Monday. He was arrested Saturday for allegedly conveying false information and sending threats by U.S. mail.
Preliminary tests showed the white powder was not hazardous, officials said.
The letters, which had fake return addresses, were received by Pelosi, a California Democrat who is in line to become speaker of the House; comedians Stewart and David Letterman; Democratic Sen. Charles Schumer of New York; and MSNBC host Keith Olberman.
note that this guy didn't actually mail anthrax to people; he only wanted them to think he'd mailed them anthrax. he terrorized people he perceived as liberals by sending them envelopes filled with an innocuous white powder. and apparently he wasn't too smart about it, either:

diligent bloggers immediately began googling the suspect's name—chad castagana—and turned up some intriguing results. results like castagana's appreciation of various busty b-move actresses as well as the busty politician katherine harris (who, you'll recall, was florida's secretary of state in 2000, and converted her popularity from certifying bush's "win" to a successful run for congress, before suffering a humiliating loss when she tried to run for senate this year).
but that was nothing. a blogger at democratic underground unearthed a bizarre screed castagana had written about the science fiction show lexx, which included nonsense like "The future is not with the Liberals, not with the Multiculturalists (both hate America)". the blogger also found a virtually identical posting at free republic, a virulent right-wing blog.
in other words: the suspected terrorist who allegedly tried to terrorize jon stewart, keith olberman, and nancy pelosi was a regular commenter at free republic and other right-wing blogs (using the name marc costanzo).
others at DU and dkos started digging through "marc costanzo's" postings and profile. there they found that he believes "Ann Coulter is a Goddess" and "worship[s] Laura Ingraham and Michele Malkin".
most surprisingly (assuming he is guilty), he repeatedly posted about his own crimes, yukking it up about how someone had sent prank anthrax letters to all those awful liberals.
naturally, professional haters like coulter and malkin have been silent about the actions of this crazed man who worshipped them, and who took their vile rhetoric to heart.¶
